Newport

Last weekend mommy, daddy and I went down South to a place called Newport. It's in a place called Rhode Island. Apparently we were actually on the Rhode Island. The rest of the state is called "Providence Plantations" not to be confused with "Plimoth Plantation," which I've already seen.

It was cold last weekend. So what do my parents do when it's cold? Let's go for a walk down by the water!

It's cold!
I was covered up though.

We ducked into a Gap to warm up. Mommy got this neat hat.

Choo choo!

Further down the waterfront there were these cages on the dock. Daddy said they were lobster pots, but they sure don't look like pots to me.

After lunch we went to a place called Belcourt Castle. There are lots of old mansions in Newport that are open for people to look at and see how super rich folks back in the olden days used to live.

They have baby statues in front! I got excited because it seemed it was going to be baby friendly inside.

What is this tour about now?
What is this tour about now? And when do we get to see more babies?

During the tour, I realized there wasn't any baby stuff at all. In fact, looking at old stuff wasn't a fun thing for me to do. So afterwards I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Let's go! Power on!

We drove around the seashore looking at more mansions.

Then it was to a hotel for the night.

This is my bed
I call this bed! So where are you guys going to sleep?

The next morning we went for a very slow train ride. It took us up the coast and past the Navy training base. Did I mention the train was very slow? I got bored with this and decided that I'd rather play with daddy's camera.

I took this picture
I aimed the camera and daddy helped me take this picture

We did get to see some cool stuff though. There were two big old boats parked next to each other. Daddy said they were "aircraft carriers." He loved this stuff when he was younger, but baby Owen was less than impressed.

It was super cold on the train, and they only had a stove at the back of the car to keep us warm. So mommy went to go get herself some hot chocolate.

Time for some hot cocoa!
Here she is looking to see if she can get some

It was a fun enough weekend for me, but next weekend, I want to do some neat stuff! Like going to the new ICA!

Things I can do at 13 months

Mommy made a video compiling some milestones I've achieved in the past couple of weeks. It's about 3 minutes long. Remember to click on the triangle to play the movie.

The other day, I walked 4 steps by myself without holding on to anything. Unfortunately, Mommy and Daddy couldn't get the camera out in time. I'll just have to give them more warning next time.

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! Daddy's taking us on a short road trip to Newport, Rhode Island to celebrate. There's nothing Chinese there... but Daddy has Monday off, so we are taking the opportunity to explore the New England area. I hear there's a train depot in Newport - maybe Daddy will take us there for a ride.

More snow!

As I mentioned in my last post, there was a big snow storm the night before Valentine's Day. After breakfast, Mommy changed me into my snow suit and let me play in the snow. Here's a video.

We also made a little snowman. I think we need more practice, what do you think?

Happy Valentine's Day

Over the weekend, Mommy and Daddy took me to a Valentine's Day party. There were lots of kids, food, and music. Even though most of the kids were much bigger than me, I still had lots of fun. Daddy helped me decorate a Valentine's Day mailbox. After we stuffed our faces with pizza and danced our hearts out, we took turns exchanging valentines by putting them in the mailboxes.

Mommy and Daddy got me a Valentine's Day present. It came in a big box and Mommy had to put it together before I could play with it. I love it! It's just like the busy box at my doctor's office. I especially love to play with the xylophone. Maybe I will be a musician when I grow up.

Yesterday, two packages came in the mail for me from my grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa Ching send me a toy that makes cow and pig noises when I press on the nose of the animal. Grandma and Grandpa Ketpura got me a Green and Speckled Frog. Now I have a frog that goes with the song!

This morning, Daddy surprised Mommy with a heart he made using ice and gatorade. Isn't it cool?

Mommy promised that we will make a snowman today since we're having our first big snow storm that started last night. I'll ask her to take pictures to post later.

Week in Review

It was another fun week out here in Boston but it was cold! Daddy said it didn't really get above 30 at all this week. Here's some of what I did this week:

This Sunday we were going to go out for dim sum, but I got tired in the morning and fell asleep. Daddy came and lay down next to me, and he went to sleep too!

Sleepytime

I only slept for about half an hour so after I woke up we went to Chinatown for dim sum.

I love dim sum

Mmm dim sum
And I love chopsticks!

Mommy bought me a new toy this week: a toy car. It's really cool, and when I push it, I go, "Rrrrrrr...."

Car goes behind the curtain?

I also figured out that my stackable rings can stack on my arm.

And yesterday I went on a play-date at Emerson's house again. She had this fun zebra riding thing, and then we played with her car.

Emerson can drive!

Another fun week, and the weekend is here already! Unless you live in Hawaii and it's not quite pau hana time yet...

More Growin'

I don't know why mommy and daddy are trying to get me to eat so much. I am growing after all. Here is more proof:

See I grew a little!

Also, I know how to cheek my food now. Here is what I do when mommy and daddy try to feed me:

Open up!
Just kidding!

End of January Notes

It turns out that I have had a haircut before. I just forgot since it was like 11 months ago!

Also, I wanted to mention that baby Mia's got her own website now, but she seems to be writing in the voice of her daddy. It's a highly sophisticated blogging technique where one pretends to be someone else and then writes about themselves. Check it out!

First Haircut

Mommy's been complaining that my hair is too long in the back, so yesterday Mommy and Daddy took me to a place called Snip-its.

At Snip-its before haircut
Before the haircut. I really don't think my hair is that long, do you?

We had to wait awhile, so Daddy showed me lots of neat stuff in the store. They have a really cool mural on the wall. You can see part of it in the picture. Then they called my name. So Mommy sat me down on her lap in front of a big mirror, and a lady with big scissors came over and put a big green cape of me. She said it was a BIG bib, so I didn't mind it on me. But then this lady started to cut off the hair on my head. I couldn't believe Mommy let her do it. I was just stunned. I tried to protest a bit, but Daddy distracted me by showing me a big tub of bubble solution and started blowing bubbles for me. Before I knew it, the green cape was covered in hair.

After the haircut. I'm just speechless. What do you think?

Happy Birthday, Ah Mah!

Today, Ah Mah (Mommy's mommy) turns 60, which makes her 60 times older than me. I hope you are having a good birthday. And we hope to see you again soon!

Happy Birthday, Ah Mah!

Lazy Sunday

This weekend we didn't do too much. On Sunday when we woke up, snow had fallen, and everything was white. So we stayed in and daddy made us pancakes with blueberries in them.

Then later we went out to look at the snow. We walked to a bakery not far from our place. The sun had come out and everything was so bright!

When we came back home, I helped with the chores.

Later, my room got dark all of a sudden. I thought at first the sun went away, but it was just the shade and daddy trying to fool me!

Knitting Baby

The other day mommy was sitting in her chair while I was playing on the ground. She looked like she was having fun so I went over to see what she was doing. She had this tangle of string shaped like a ball, so I helped her by stretching the string all out. It was fun!

Emerson's Birthday

This weekend I took my parents to Baby Emerson's first birthday party. She and I are almost the same age! There were lots of babies there, and lots of neat things to see.

Lots of babies
Lots of mommies and lots of babies

Icy!
It was cold outside that day. Lucky we were inside!

I can wear my hat
Here's a little trick I learned from Baby Una. If you don't want to wear the birthday hat, just use your regular hat! Your mommy won't know the difference, and she'll make funny faces too!

Elmo cake
Emerson had an Elmo cake. You can see where she's trying to cut the cake for everyone in the green section.

Frosting is yummy!
We all liked it, but Emerson enjoyed it most of all! I think she shared some with her daddy after we took this picture.

Future Composer?

Yesterday, Mommy was cleaning the floor. So she put me in the exersaucer with my piano book that Grandma Ching got me. As Mommy was cleaning, I wrote a song for her. She got distracted by the music and had to stop cleaning to listen and take this video. Hope you like my first music video.

More babies

It's only 18 days into the new year, and already there's a new crop of youngsters coming into the world for me to meet...

Ichiro Turns 1

After a whole year of going to other people's birthday parties, last weekend we had my big first birthday bash at Ah Mah and Ah Gong's house!

More excitement
I was excited!

Mommy made me a onesie just for the occasion. Here's the design:

It says, "I am Ichiro. I am one year old." Only mommy forgot to put the polite "krup" on the end, so it sounds like I'm being rude. Please excuse... me only one. krup.

The spread
Ah Mah made lots of food!

I'm excited about lunch
I liked my lunch. Ah Mah made me tod mun (fried fish cake with red curry paste) and noodles. I loved it!

Then it was time for cake cutting.

Birthday Prince
Ah Mah helped me with my hat, and Cousin Maya helped me with the candles.

So many people came to help me celebrate!

Uncle Greg and Baby Alana
Here's Baby Alana and her daddy. Again, another younger baby who's about the same size as me.

Aunty Jen and Uncle P'Namphol
Aunty Jen and Uncle Namphol gave me a place to sit.

Thai Culture Club
The UCSD Thai Culture Club came too! Actually that's only 4.5 Thai people and 3.5 non-Thais in this picture.

And even though mommy had said "no presents" (I know, I know, I couldn't believe it either) people brought me so many gifts anyway!

I can't believe Uncle Dan and Linda customized this shirt for me!
I got a personalized Seattle Mariners' jersey with my name on it!

Thank you everyone for coming and for the great presents! I had the best birthday ever.

Now we're back in Boston, where it's actually warmer than SoCal (39 here, 29 there today). I had an awesome trip, and I hope I will get to see everyone again soon!

Ah Gong, Ah Mah and us
Thank you Ah Mah and Ah Gong for all your hard work! See you again soon.
